My Blog Site

All I know about playing Harp.

My Influences:

James Montgomery, James Cotton, John Popper, William Clarke, Howard Levey, Chris Botti, Jon Gindick, www.gindick.com best place to learn. Bill Wilson, 24 yrs and counting

Perfoming:                                        It's most important to play rhythmically. If you can't dance you are in trouble. Listen, Listen, Listen to what your bandmates are doing. You are the salt, pepper and the sugar, not the main course. Help the singer, dont hurt them. Frame the vocal. When it's time to solo, don't be a wimp! If you only know one note, make it a good one.

Once in a while you come across a Prima Donna. Find another band and leave them to play alone in front of a mirror. Always share the glory. Without your bandmates you are nothing!

Secret:                                              If somebody puts a sheet of music in front of you, pretend you know what it is and then just ask what Key its in.

My Congas are LP's

Triumph Speedmaster                       So much cooler than a Harley

I am a Lee Osker man from the begining. They are bright and loud and last forever. I also play the Honer Special 20's. They tend to have a warmer tone but don't last for shit!

I tried the new blues harp by Honer and they have much improved. They are built like the 20 but a wood comb. Even warmer and easier to bend. I like this harp. You Marine Band guys can keep sucking wind.

My Amp is a 30 watt Pevey Classic, retubed with Czech and Russian brands. This amp has been a work horse for me.

My Mic is an Audio Technica high resonance mic. I get plenty of volume and little feedback. I would list the number but I beat the hell out of this mic so I cant read it.

I used a Sure Green Bullet for a while but found it too muddy and lazy for my style of play and it would feed back like crazy. Also sub a Sure sm58 for time to time, great mic.

I have a Pevey Classic 50 with 4 ten inch speakers. Too much to lug and much more horsepower than I really need. I use it when a guitar player needs to be slapped around a bit. It's a great alternative to the more expensise Fender Bassmen.

Where I shop, ask for Chris.
